Our Takeaways From The Retail Technology Show 2023
2nd May 2023
ReThink Co-Founders, Simon and Sue, have just returned from this year’s Retail Technology Show which took place at Olympia London on 26th-27th April 2023.
Uniting many of the industry’s leading retailers and brand professionals, RTS 2023 was bigger than ever, with significantly more halls and stands than in previous years. We got a real sense of it being the first big retail event since Covid and we are delighted to hear that plans are underway to make it even bigger next year too.
As well as a great opportunity for us to meet existing clients and have good conversations with new people, our biggest takeaways from the show were:
- For the first time ever, there were a number of retailers offering locker solutions for Click and Collect parcel pick-up. Some relatively simple solutions, plus an increasing number of smart solutions
- The continuing data and AI story featured on many stands – the challenge is to work out what will add value as there remain a number of “solutions” in search of a problem to fix
- Lots of interest in electronic shelf edge labels as the price of tech drops and retailers take a wider view of the benefit case
- There were a couple of stands offering robotics to support stock tasks in retailers. Robotics are increasingly being used in warehouses and we expect their application to spread into retail as the sophistication grows and robots are adapted to the different working environments in stores versus large warehouse spaces
The Retail Technology Show is always an extremely insightful event and we highly recommend it. We have already signed up for the same spot next year and we hope to see you there.
But if you would like to discuss your retail business and the challenges you face sooner, you don’t have to wait until next year.
