Case study

A hotel chain conducted a strategic review of its housekeeping operations. This included reviewing each stage of the room clean, as well as the tools and cleaning materials used. ReThink helped by measuring the time to clean different room types for mid-stay and changeover cleans as a before and after exercise, so the team could validate the time savings achieved.

In addition to measuring the times per room clean, ReThink provided additional insights from the data and the observations of our on-site teams. These included:

  • The frequency of instances of linen rejections and the additional time incurred as a result
  • Colleague compliance with the steps and sequencing of the room cleans
  • Identifying additional opportunities to save time cleaning, such as replacing desk notices covering the operation of the room heating and cooling system with a permanent, wall-mounted notice, and the design of the cleaning trollies in use

We also supported another hotel chain in a review of their breakfast buffet and dinner service operations. This review provided insights on how to best manage breakfast peak demand and optimise hours required for the quieter dinner period.

Breakfast insights included the siting and layout to optimise customer flow around self-serve hot drinks machines.
